Retention and reuse of stormwater in urban areas are key concepts for climate proof cities. Field Factors develops nature-based solutions (NBS) to collect, treat and store stormwater surpluses locally for later use. Our Bluebloqs biofiltration system ensures high water quality and turns rain into a reliable source of fresh water for various urban applications.

The first Bluebloqs biofiltration system has been build near the Sparta stadium in Rotterdam in June 2018. The system in Rotterdam is used as one of 9 case-studies in the European H2020 research project NAIAD. In this research we perform an economic assessment of NBS for urban water management and develop new business models that could support the upscaling of these NBS.

Key activities:

  • Determine value of co-benefits of NBS for urban water management

  • Perform LCC and cost-benefit analysis of NBS for urban water management.

  • Develop innovative business models to support the uptake of Bluebloqs and other NBS throughout Europe.

Develop scenarios to compare NBS with alternative strategies.
